Manipur

The Manipur government has extended the suspension of mobile internet and data services for three more days in seven districts following recent unrest. Meanwhile, curfew relaxation continues in four districts of the Imphal Valley as the law and order situation shows signs of improvement.

Internet Suspension Extended

Commissioner (Home) N Ashok Kumar announced the extension of the suspension of mobile internet and data services from 5:15 pm Wednesday to 5:15 pm Saturday. This affects seven districts: Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kakching, Kangpokpi, and Churachandpur. The decision comes after widespread violence erupted on November 16, following the recovery of six bodies in Jiribam district.

Earlier, Chief Secretary Vineet Joshi had suspended mobile internet services on November 16 for two days. On November 18, the suspension was extended for an additional two days.

Broadband Services Restored in Manipur

With no major incidents reported recently, the government conditionally lifted the suspension on broadband (fixed-line) services. This move aims to alleviate hardships faced by students, employees, healthcare institutions, and other critical sectors.

Curfew Relaxed in Four Districts

Curfew was relaxed for five hours on Thursday in Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, and Kakching districts. Residents were allowed to purchase essential items and manage urgent tasks between 5 am and 10 am District Magistrates issued separate notifications regarding the relaxation.

The curfew was initially imposed indefinitely on November 16 to control the unrest following the discovery of the bodies of three children and three women in Jiribam.

The situation remains under close watch, and further measures will depend on developments in the troubled districts.
