The Manipur government “declined,” according to the Congress, to allow Rahul Gandhi to start his “Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra” from the Imphal East district on Wednesday. On January 14, the “Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra” was supposed to set out from Hatta Kangjeibung in the Manipur district of Imphal East. According to PTI, Keisham Megachandra, the president of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, called the decision “unfortunate” and a “violation of people’s rights.”

Manipur CM turns down the proposal for Rahul Gandhi’s Yatra

“We met Chief Minister N Biren Singh and sought permission for the venue of ‘Bharat Joro Nyay Yatra’ at Hatta Kangjeibung in Imphal East district from where the rally is scheduled to be flagged off. However, the chief minister has declined to permit the same,” Keisham Megachandra said. Since ethnic violence broke out in the state of Manipur in May 2023, a “critic” state of law and order has been in place. On January 14, Rahul Gandhi’s “Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra” is scheduled to commence its second leg.

We are taking reports from various security agencies. After receiving reports from them, we will take a concrete decision.”

In the meantime, Manipur’s government has requested permission from the Center, according to Congress general secretary KC Venugopal. The program will be launched by Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge in front of state chief ministers that are under Congress rule as well as other party leaders.
