Malayalam cinema icon Mammootty has broken his silence on the recently released Hema committee report, dismissing claims of a “power group” within the industry. Speaking on Sunday, the superstar emphasized that the industry does not operate under the control of a select few, countering the report’s mention of a 15-member power group.

Mammootty’s statement comes a day after fellow superstar Mohanlal addressed the media about the Hema committee report. Public criticized them both the actors for their silence since the report came public on August 19.

Mohanlal, in his Saturday comments, welcomed the report, noting that issues similar to those in the film industry exist across all sectors of society. Mammootty echoed these sentiments in a social media post on Sunday. He explained that he had waited for the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) and its leadership to share their views before making his own statement.

Mammootty highlighted that cinema, as a reflection of society, naturally mirrors both its positive and negative aspects. He acknowledged that because the film industry is constantly under public scrutiny, even minor incidents can become the focus of widespread discussion. He urged industry professionals to remain vigilant and responsible, ensuring that nothing detrimental occurs in their field.

Referring to the Hema committee, which was established following a high-profile incident, Mammootty expressed strong support for its findings. He emphasized that the industry fully welcomes and backs the committee’s recommendations. Moreover, he called for unity among all film industry associations to implement the suggested changes.

Mammootty also touched on the ongoing police investigations into recent allegations. He expressed confidence that the authorities would conduct an honest investigation and urged everyone to let the courts determine appropriate punishments.

Additionally, the actor stressed the importance of enacting necessary legislation if legal hurdles arise in implementing the committee’s practical recommendations. “Ultimately, cinema must survive,” Mammootty concluded, underscoring the need to preserve the integrity and future of the Malayalam film industry.
