On Saturday, a senior official stated that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will visit the train accident site in Balasore, Odisha.
According to the official, Banerjee spoke over the phone with her Odisha counterpart Naveen Patnaik about the accident on Friday night.
The Bengal CM kept a close eye on the situation from her Kalighat residence and expressed her sorrow at the tragic tragedy in Odisha’s Balasore district, where three trains derailed one on top of another in a horrifying sequence, killing at least 233 persons and wounding more than 900.
The bureaucrat told PTI, “She is quite worried and will be flying to Balasore today to take stock of the situation. She has also spoken to Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik in this regard. She was in touch with the team which she sent to Balasore last night”.
The Bengal CM has promised to assist the Odisha government with rescue efforts and medical treatment for those injured.
Last Friday night, a delegation led by West Bengal minister Manas Bhuniya, Trinamool Congress MP Dola Sen, and a few officials arrived at the train accident site.
Since Friday night, the West Bengal government has activated two emergency phone numbers 033- 22143526/ 22535185.
