Chief Minister of West Bengal on Wednesday expressed her dismay over a decision of the Calcutta High Court that ordered the scrapping of OBC (other backward classes) certificates issued after 2010. Disagreeing with the order, Mamata said that the OBC reservation will continue and she will knock on the door of the higher courts if needed.
“Not everyone in the courts is bad. I respect the judiciary. But the person who has given this order… I will not accept it,” CM asserted while addressing an election rally at Panihati of the Dumdum parliament constituency.
Challenging the order of the High Court from the stage, Mamata Banerjee affirmed that the OBC reservation will continue to exist and she will move to higher courts if required. “They don’t know me. I am not someone who will blow to their whims,” she added.
In an order made on Wednesday, the Calcutta High Court cancelled all OBC certificates issued in West Bengal after 2010. The Apex Court has asked the Other Backward Classes Commission of West Bengal to prepare a new list of OBCs per 1993 Act.
as per an estimate, 5 lakh OBC certificates in West Bengal are set to be cancelled.
Chief Minister said that OBC reservations were implemented per the law. Talking about a petition filed against the reservation earlier she said that complainants lost their cases.
In West Bengal, polling is taking place in all seven phases with two more phases to be held on May 25 and June 1 respectively. The counting of the votes and results is scheduled for June 4
