A major accident struck the Phaphamau area of Prayagraj district, Uttar Pradesh, on Monday afternoon after a wall of the Adarsh Cold Storage building suddenly collapsed.
Several labourers working inside the facility were caught in the incident and became trapped under the debris.
The collapse triggered panic at the site, with chaos and cries for help reported immediately. Locals quickly alerted the police and fire brigade.
Emergency teams reached the location promptly and launched a rescue operation to locate and evacuate those buried.
Rescue teams, including fire personnel, are actively clearing rubble and searching for survivors. Senior police and administrative officials are present at the site to supervise relief efforts.
According to the latest update, four bodies and three injured individuals have been shifted to SRN Hospital. Authorities have not yet confirmed the final casualty count.
Following the collapse, an ammonia gas leak began from the cold storage unit, prompting police to disperse the crowd for safety.
Mild force was used to control the situation. Tensions escalated as some locals, angered by the incident, pelted stones at an ambulance transporting injured workers. Police intervened and restored order.
The administration continues rescue operations while ensuring medical care for the injured. The cause of the structural failure remains under investigation.
The incident raises serious concerns about industrial safety standards and emergency preparedness in such facilities.
