In the fast-paced era of social media journalism, maintaining content credibility is a significant challenge, according to Pratap Somvanshi, Managing Editor of Dainik Hindustan. Speaking at the orientation program for first-year students of IP University’s School of Mass Communication (USMC) on the university’s eastern campus, Somvanshi highlighted the pressures faced by various media platforms to deliver content quickly. This rapid dissemination often results in reduced fact-checking, posing a challenge to credibility.
Somvanshi advised aspiring journalists to cultivate a habit of reading and writing, emphasizing that a good journalist needs a broad knowledge base. He recommended daily newspaper reading to build this knowledge.
He also stressed the importance of curiosity in expanding one’s knowledge and discussed the increasing role of technology in journalism. Somvanshi pointed out that in an age of multi-tasking, the role of journalists is evolving, and it is essential to adapt to these changes.

Sushil Singh, a senior Delhi Government official and a journalism graduate from the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, also addressed the students. He noted that the field of mass communication offers numerous and varied opportunities, especially in behind-the-scenes roles, which often outnumber on-screen positions.
The orientation program introduced MA (MC) and BA (JMC) students to the faculty, curriculum, laboratories, and the new East Campus. Prof. A. K. Saini, Dean of USMC, spoke about the university’s high national and international rankings and encouraged students to dedicate themselves fully to their studies during this crucial period of their lives.
The event was attended by other senior faculty members and USMC officials.
