The event attracted not only devotees from across India but also a significant number of NRIs from countries like Canada, Mauritius, Australia, the USA, and Russia.
Many traveled to perform ancestral rituals and seek blessings at the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati.
With thousands of devotees conducting rituals for up to seven or eight generations, Prayagwals, Brahmins, and purohits in Prayagraj experienced an exceptional increase in work.
The Maha Kumbh period alone brought earnings that surpassed their usual annual income.
The influx of NRI visitors led to long queues at the ghats, where devotees waited for priests to perform traditional ceremonies.
Government Support For Priests & Ritual Performers
Recognizing their crucial role, the Yogi government not only enhanced facilities for devotees but also ensured proper arrangements for priests and ritual performers, further encouraging their participation.
Pandit Mahendra Nath Sharma, a priest at Sangam Ghat, noted that the unexpected rise in NRIs visiting for ancestral rites generated significant employment.
Many expatriates from Canada, Mauritius, Australia, the USA, and Russia arrived in Prayagraj for rituals such as pind daan and tarpan.
Some also brought the ashes of their ancestors for immersion in the sacred waters.
To accommodate the surge in pilgrims, priests hired additional assistants and clerks, providing steady employment opportunities throughout the festival.
During the Maha Kumbh, ghats remained crowded with devotees waiting for their turn to perform rituals.
Prayagwal Subrahmanyam Shastri (Chariji) highlighted how the Yogi government’s continuous development efforts impressed both local and international pilgrims, instilling a sense of pride and enthusiasm.
Pilgrims from various states, including Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Telangana, actively participated in the grand event.
Brahmin Pankaj Pandey mentioned that priests not only conducted rituals with dedication but also received generous offerings, leading to a noticeable rise in their earnings.
