With Maha Kumbh 2025 drawing closer, preparations in Prayagraj’s Mela area are picking up pace. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently directed officials to expedite land allocations, ensuring the process is completed by 31 December.
In response, over 4,000 organizations have already been allotted land, with a total of 8,000 to 10,000 groups expected to participate in the grand religious gathering.
A major focus has been the Akharas, central to the event’s spiritual and cultural landscape.
Most Akharas and affiliated organizations have received their land allotments, and camps are already being set up.
The allocation process for remaining groups, including new applicants, is also underway and expected to conclude on schedule.
The Mela Authority however confirmed that land has been assigned to all Akharas, follower Akharas, Mahamandaleshwar, Khalsa, Dandiwada, Acharyawada, Khakachowk, and Prayagwal groups.
Specific allocations include 19 plots for Akharas and their sub-groups, 460 for Mahamandaleshwar, 750 for Khalsa, 203 for Dandiwada, 300 for Acharyawada, 300 for Khakachowk, and 1,766 for other participating organizations.
Land Allotments For Prayagwals & New Groups
Since 12 December, 450 allotments have been finalized for Prayagwals, with their process set to finish by month-end.
Similarly, new organizations began receiving allocations on 16 December, and this will continue until 31 December.
On-site activities have already begun in earnest. The allocated land is bustling with representatives constructing tents and decorating their spaces in line with traditional aesthetics.
In the Jhunsi area, camps of Akharas, Mahamandaleshwar, and other groups are rapidly taking shape, creating a vibrant atmosphere.
To aid visitors, the administration has installed checkered plates across the grounds. It is also placing signages to guide pilgrims to designated areas.
Finalizing essential infrastructure, including lighting and other utilities, aims to meet the tight deadlines.
The Juna Akhara and Avahan Akhara have already set up in the cantonment, with Agni Akhara joining them recently.
With steady advancements, officials aim to fully prepare and adorn the Mela area by 1 January, ensuring it is ready to host millions of devotees for Maha Kumbh 2025.
