Magh Purnima Snan Parv Marks The Conclusion Of Kalpvas At Mahakumbh

As the sacred Magh Purnima Snan marked the end of the month-long Kalpvas, thousands of Kalpvasis bid an emotional farewell to Mahakumbh, the world’s largest spiritual and cultural gathering held at the confluence of the Sangam in Prayagraj.

Immersed in devotion, penance, and meditation, these devout pilgrims concluded their spiritual journey with a final dip in the holy Triveni before departing with renewed faith and cherished memories.

Kalpvas Concludes With Rituals And Divine Offerings

Kalpvas, which started with the Paush Purnima bathing festival, concluded with the Magh Purnima Snan. After their final rituals-bathing in the sacred confluence, making donations, and seeking Maa Ganga’s blessings-Kalpvasis returned home, carrying the spiritual essence of Mahakumbh with them.

The Mahakumbh, a grand gathering of devotion and meditation, saw millions of devotees participating in spiritual discourses, kirtans, and other religious activities. Kalpvasis, deeply involved in prayers and penance, also witnessed the revered Akharas.

On Magh Purnima morning, they took their final dip in the Triveni during Brahma Muhurta, then performed concluding rituals at their camps. Guided by Tirtha Purohits, they made offerings, including donations of food, clothing, and bedding, based on their faith and ability.

Devotees who couldn’t complete their donations on Magh Purnima could bathe at Trijata the next day before leaving.

Well-Organized Departure Of Kalpvasis

The Mahakumbh administration implemented a strategic exit plan to ensure a smooth and safe dispersal of the Kalpvasis. DIG Mahakumbh Vaibhav Krishna had earlier urged devotees to follow a structured departure process to avoid congestion.

Due to the massive gathering, vehicles were allowed to move only after the fairgrounds began to clear. Special arrangements were made for designated tractors and small vehicles stationed outside the fair zone, ensuring an organized exit once devotees completed their final rituals.

The Unique Significance Of Kalpvas In Prayagraj

Among the four Mahakumbh locations-Prayagraj, Ujjain, Nashik, and Haridwar-Kalpvas is a unique tradition exclusive to Prayagraj. This year’s Mahakumbh held special significance as the Yogi government elevated the event into a grand, divine, and well-organized experience. Many Kalpvasis expressed gratitude for the improved facilities and accommodations provided by the administration.

Ram Achal Mishra from Pratapgarh, who completed his 18th Kalpvas, emphasized that beyond adhering to strict spiritual disciplines, the opportunity to listen to saintly discourses was invaluable. He also appreciated the administration’s thoughtful allocation of Kalpvas camps near the Ganga’s banks.

Similarly, 76-year-old Shivnath Gahmari from Satna, who undertook his 23rd Kalpvas despite the harsh winter, became emotional as he reflected on his experience. “Leaving the sacred embrace of Maa Ganga fills me with peace and spiritual fulfillment. I vow to return once again to partake in this unparalleled journey of devotion and enlightenment,” he said.

As the Mahakumbh continues, it remains a beacon of faith, drawing millions of pilgrims who seek spiritual awakening and divine blessings at the sacred Sangam.
