LNG Carrier Disha Arrives At Dahej With 62,370 Tonnes Of Qatar Gas

LNG carrier ‘Disha’ has arrived at Dahej Port in Gujarat after completing its journey through the Strait of Hormuz. The vessel transported 62,370 metric tonnes of liquefied natural gas to India.

The shipment originated from Qatar’s Ras Laffan LNG terminal. Its arrival is expected to strengthen the country’s energy reserves at a time of volatility in international energy markets.

A consortium headed by the Shipping Corporation of India operates the vessel on behalf of Petronet LNG Limited.

Reports indicate that the carrier remained in the Gulf region for more than three months before setting sail for India.

The vessel’s safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz has attracted attention from the energy sector. The narrow waterway is a crucial route for a significant share of the world’s oil and gas exports.

The fresh LNG supply is likely to enhance the availability of natural gas across the country. It is also expected to help maintain reliable supplies for households and industries.

Located in Bharuch district, the Dahej LNG terminal serves as India’s largest LNG import facility. The terminal plays a central role in distributing natural gas across the nation.

The shipment reached India amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia.

Developments involving Iran and the United States have raised concerns about the security of energy transport routes in the region.

The successful completion of the voyage has provided reassurance to stakeholders in India’s energy sector. It also highlights the importance of keeping key maritime corridors open to support uninterrupted energy imports and long-term supply stability.
