Bharat Ratna for LK Advani
Veteran BJP leader, Lal Krishna Advani, expressed his gratitude upon being conferred with the prestigious Bharat Ratna award, stating that it not only honors him personally but also the ideals and principles he has steadfastly upheld throughout his life.
Advani, a stalwart of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), rose to national prominence, particularly through his pivotal role in advocating for the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya during the early 1990s, notably through his Rath Yatra campaign.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his joy at Advani’s recognition, emphasizing the significance of his contributions to India’s development and recognizing him as one of the nation’s most esteemed statesmen. Modi highlighted Advani’s journey from grassroots activism to serving as Deputy Prime Minister, Home Minister, and Minister of Information and Broadcasting.
Originally from Karachi, Advani migrated to India post-partition and became a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at a young age. He later joined the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the precursor to the BJP, founded by Syama Prasad Mookerjee.
