The verdict shocked Asaram Bapu
A district and sessions court verdict shocked the devotees of the so-called Godman Asaram Bapu. In Gandhinagar on Monday the court held Asaram Bapu guilty of criminal intimidation and rape and acquitted 5 co-accused in the case.
81-year-old Asaram Bapu was convicted in a rape case filed ten years ago in 2013 by a former woman disciple.
Gujarat’s Gandhinagar Court today sentenced life imprisonment to self-styled godman Asaram Bapu in the ten year old rape case. The old man was convicted in a rape case which was in the year 2013 filed by a former woman disciple.
On the quantum of sentence, DK Soni, Sessions court judge pronounced the ruling following the hearings of the arguments.
Gandhinagar’s district and sessions court on Monday held Asaram Bapu alias Ashupal Harpalani guilty of criminal intimidation and and rape while acquitting 5 other co-accused of the case.
D K Soni, District and Sessions Court judge under Indian Penal Code Sections 376 (2)(c), 377, 342, 506 (2), 354 and 357 held the main accuse Asaram Bapu guilty.
IPC’s section 376 (2) (c) belongs to the criminal act of being staff or on the management of a place of custody established under or by any law for the time being in force or of children’s or a woman’s institution takes advantage of his official position and commits rape on any member of such place.
IPC’s Section 377 belongs to the offense of unnatural sex, 342 to wrongful confinement, 506(2) to criminal intimidation, 354 to assault with intent to outrage the modesty of a woman, and 357 to assault to wrongfully confine a pertain.

Currently the self-styled Godman, Asaram Bapu is lodged in a Jodhpur jail, where now he is already serving life sentence in another case which also belongs to the rape crime at his ashram in Rajasthan in the year 2013.
