Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid tribute to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary, remembering his simplicity, dedication to national service and leadership.

In a post on X, PM Modi described Lal Bahadur Shastri as an inspiring figure whose simplicity and commitment to the nation continue to be remembered.

The Prime Minister released a video recalling Lal Bahadur Shastri’s contribution to the country and his iconic slogan, ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’. He said the slogan encouraged farmers and soldiers and reflected Lal Bahadur Shastri’s leadership during a challenging period.

Earlier, PM Narendra Modi paid tribute to Lal Bahadur Shastri at Vijay Ghat in New Delhi.

Amit Shah also remembered Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary, referring to him as ‘Guddi ke Lal’ and paying his respects to the former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna awardee.

In his post on X, the Minister said Lal Bahadur Shastri elevated farmers and soldiers as symbols of India’s strength and pride through the call of ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’. He further highlighted Lal Bahadur Shastri’s leadership and the decisions he took in the national interest.

Amit Shah said the former Prime Minister’s values of simplicity, duty and national service would continue to guide the country.

Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti falls on October 2. Born Lal Bahadur Shrivastava, he gave up his caste surname at a young age.

Kashi Vidyapeeth awarded him the title ‘Shastri’, meaning scholar, in 1925. The slogan ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’ remains closely associated with his legacy.
