Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary on October 2, recalling Mahatma Gandhi’s principles of truth, non-violence, compassion, Swadeshi and self-reliance.

In a post on a social media platform, PM Modi said Mahatma Gandhi’s timeless message should continue guiding the country towards a better society and a Viksit Bharat.

Taking to X, PM Narendra Modi posted, “May Bapu’s timeless message keep guiding us towards a better society and a Viksit Bharat.”

In another post, PM Narendra Modi reflected on Mahatma Gandhi’s life and its continuing relevance. He described Mahatma Gandhi’s life as a beacon of truth, non-violence, compassion and service that could guide humanity across generations.

PM Modi highlighted Mahatma Gandhi’s compassion, humility and teachings on treating suffering and happiness equally. He referred to Mahatma Gandhi’s emphasis on forgiveness and freedom from ego and possessiveness.

Amit Shah also paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, highlighting Mahatma Gandhi’s views on Swaraj, Swadeshi and self-reliance.

The Minister said Mahatma Gandhi viewed Swaraj not only as the objective of freedom but also as the foundation of self-respect and self-reliance. He said Mahatma Gandhi stressed the importance of staying connected with India’s roots and promoted Swadeshi, one’s own language, culture and cleanliness as key principles of Indian society.

Shah recalled Mahatma Gandhi’s belief that dedication to action and purity of thought could make any goal achievable. He further paid his respects to Mahatma Gandhi for spreading the message of truth, non-violence and compassion across the world.

Gandhi Jayanti is observed on October 2 to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The United Nations observes the day as the International Day of Non-Violence.
