According to officials, 200-year-old Kolkata’s iconic Indian Museum received an Email claiming that bombs were planted inside, prompting police to launch a search operation at the repository.
Kolkata Police bomb squad launched search operation
The museum is being searched and sanitized by members of the Kolkata Police bomb squad. According to the officials, public access inside the museum has also been suspended for the time being.
Bombs could explode anytime, written in e-mail
“The threat mail stated that several bombs were planted inside the Indian Museum, and those would explode any moment. A thorough search of the museum building is underway,” said a senior police officer, according to PTI.
Sniffer Dogs and QRT deployed at the site
In addition to the bomb squad, he said that a large number of police officers, sniffer dogs, and a quick response team (QRT) had been stationed inside and outside the central Kolkata building.
Cyber department investigating email’s source
According to the officer, the police cyber department has also begun an investigation to find the email’s source. According to information on it’s website, the Indian Museum was founded in 1814 and is the largest and oldest multipurpose museum in the Asia-Pacific region as well as the Indian subcontinent.
