New Delhi: In his six political pledges ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal stated that his top priorities are complete statehood for Delhi and free healthcare for all citizens. Sunita Kejriwal, Kejriwal’s wife, gave the message at a massive Opposition protest gathering at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan.
The event, called “Loktantra Bachao” or ‘save democracy’, brought together important Opposition leaders such as Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Farooq Abdullah, among others. Sunita Kejriwal read out a letter from her husband, who is now in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the suspected Delhi liquor policy fraud.
The six major election pledges made by Kejriwal are as follows:
- Uninterrupted access to electricity
- Free electricity, revolutionizing education
- Providing universal healthcare and fair prices for farmers
- Granting full statehood to Delhi
“My beloved Indians, please accept this son’s greetings; I am not asking for votes, nor am I suggesting that anybody be defeated to win the elections. I’m talking about creating a new India. Our country has everything. I am in jail, and I have a lot of time to ponder. I think about Mother India; Mother India is in agony when people do not get a good education, do not receive adequate care, power outages occur, and roads are ruined,” according to Kejriwal’s letter.

Sunita Kejriwal addressed the crowd, conveying her husband’s message as he remains jailed in connection with a money laundering case related to the previous Delhi taxation policy.
“Mother India is in pain; this tyranny will not work,” she stated.
Sharad Pawar of the NCP, Uddhav Thackeray of the Shiv Sena (UBT), Akhilesh Yadav of the Samajwadi Party, Sitaram Yechury of the CPI(M), D Raja of the CPI, Mehbooba Mufti of the PDP, and Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren were among the many prominent opposition figures who attended the gathering.
Senior AAP leader and Delhi minister Gopal Rai described the ‘Loktantra Bachao’ demonstration as the final opportunity to protect India’s Constitution and democratic culture under the banner of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA). The Congress underlined that the march is not directed against any specific individual, but rather is a coordinated effort to safeguard the sanctity of the Constitution and democracy.
