A new book by the Muslim Rashtriya Manch (MRM) on Waqf property management has triggered a controversy in Kashmir. The Kashmir Seva Sangh (KSS) has demanded a CBI investigation into alleged Waqf property mismanagement. It also urged the authors to release a Jammu and Kashmir-specific version to expose influential individuals involved.
Union Minister for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju launched the book on Friday. He described it as an “encyclopedia of Waqf” and a key resource for policymakers and the public. The book calls for reforms to ensure Waqf properties benefit underprivileged communities.
KSS Founder Firdous Baba accused the Waqf Board of corruption and mismanagement. He claimed encroachments and neglect have left many Waqf properties underutilized. Baba urged a CBI inquiry to ensure transparency and accountability.
He also demanded special government attention for Downtown Srinagar. He highlighted the lack of access to resources and limited economic opportunities for women and youth in the area. Baba stressed the need for immediate intervention to address these issues.
KSS announced initiatives to empower women and youth. It plans to open a charitable hospital and a free coaching center for competitive exams.
KSS leaders Naseer Ali Khan and Eliza Izhar stressed the need for reforms in education and road safety. They argued that proper Waqf property management could tackle unemployment, improve healthcare, and boost education.
The KSS continues to push for a CBI inquiry and global support. It aims to turn Waqf properties into resources for Kashmir’s most vulnerable communities.
