Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Thursday held his first meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi after assuming office.
The two leaders discussed several issues linked to Karnataka’s development agenda and future growth plans.
During the meeting, CM Shivakumar presented Prime Minister Modi with a wooden-carved statue of 12th-century social reformer Basavanna.
Following the discussions, the Chief Minister described the meeting as constructive. He said both leaders focused on key priorities, including infrastructure expansion, investment promotion, urban mobility, irrigation projects, innovation and welfare programmes aimed at improving citizens’ lives.
CM Shivakumar reaffirmed Karnataka’s commitment to contributing significantly to India’s economic growth. He stressed that the state remains a major growth engine and intends to strengthen its position through accelerated development and increased investment opportunities.
The Karnataka Chief Minister also emphasised the importance of cooperative federalism and expressed his willingness to work closely with the Union government to achieve common development objectives.
According to CM Shivakumar, stronger coordination between the Centre and Karnataka would help fast-track major projects, attract fresh investments and fulfil public aspirations.
“Karnataka has always been a key contributor to India’s growth story, and we remain committed to strengthening that role,” CM Shivakumar said.
The Chief Minister has frequently criticised the Centre over financial allocations to Karnataka. He has raised concerns regarding tax devolution, drought relief assistance, and funding support for infrastructure projects.
CM Shivakumar has also urged the Union government to expedite approvals worth more than Rs 13,500 crore for pending Bengaluru development proposals and highlighted limited central support for the Namma Metro Yellow Line.
Meetings With Congress Leadership
During his visit to New Delhi, the Karnataka Chief Minister also met Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra at 10 Janpath. He thanked the party leadership for its continued support and discussed governance and organisational matters.
The Chief Minister also visited the offices of the National Mahila Congress, the Indian Youth Congress, and the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), where senior party leaders and office-bearers welcomed him.
