A Delhi court extended the judicial custody of BRS leader K Kavitha until April 23. Kavitha, daughter of former Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao, was arrested in connection with a corruption case related to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam. She was apprehended from Tihar Jail, where she was already detained following her arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) presented Kavitha before the court as her three-day police custody, previously granted by the judge, had expired. The CBI requested judicial custody for her, stating that further custodial interrogation was unnecessary. However, Kavitha’s legal representatives, Advocate Nitesh Rana and Deepak Nagar, opposed the plea, arguing that there were insufficient grounds to justify her continued custody since she was no longer needed for questioning.

Earlier, CBI officials had questioned Kavitha inside the prison premises after obtaining permission from a special court. During the interrogation, Kavitha was asked about WhatsApp conversations retrieved from co-accused Buchi Babu’s phone and documents related to a land transaction allegedly involving kickbacks of ₹100 crore paid to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to influence the excise policy in favor of a liquor lobby.
Kavitha, aged 46, was arrested by the ED from her residence in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, on March 15. Since then, she has been in judicial custody in connection with the case.
