J&K Assembly Election: Valley Observes Over 24.10% Voting Amid Second Phase

The second phase of first J&K Assembly Election after abrogation of Article 370 has registered 24.10 percent of voter turnout until 11 in the morning.

The valley is casting votes on 26 Assembly seats in six districts on Wednesday, 25 September. The polls taking place amid tightened security will conclude at 6PM. The key constituencies like Rajouri along with Poonch and Reasi has observed additional vigilance in term of security as the region has seen spike in terror attacks over last few years.

Notably, 239 candidates from across the political parties are in fray including 79 in Pir Panjal region of Jammu and Kashmir. Nearly 2.5 million registered voters will decide the fate of candidates in ground in second phase of 3 phased poll that will conclude on 1 October.

The Election Commission of India held the first of the assembly elections taking place after 10 years, on 18 September with third and last phase taking place on October 1. Further more, the Election Commission of India will announce the results on October 8, 2024.

The first phase held across 24 constituencies, recorder the voter turnout of 61.13 percent.

Omar Abdullah, a candidate for the National Congress running for two seats in Ganderbal and Budgam, is one of the main contenders in the second round of assembly elections.

Ravinder Raina, the leader of the Jammu and Kashmir Bharatiya Janata Party, is running from Nowshera in Rajouri, a seat he has held for ten years.

The election commission reports that 157 special polling places have been set up, comprising 26 “pink polling places,” led by women; 26 polling places overseen by individuals with special needs; 26 polling places manned by young people; 31 border polling places; 26 green polling places; and 22 unique polling places.
