CBI Uncovers Procedural Lapses In RG Kar Medical College Rape And Murder Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has identified significant procedural lapses during the post-mortem examination of the victim in the rape and murder case at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital.

According to sources, the autopsies of eight bodies conducted at the morgue on August 9 raised several concerns. Notably, only the post-mortem of the woman doctor occurred after sunset, which generally violates established protocol. Investigators discovered the victim’s body in a seminar hall within the RG Kar complex on the morning of August 9.

Investigators are particularly troubled by the fact that the autopsy took only 70 minutes to complete. They believe this unusually short duration, especially given the case’s seriousness, raises suspicions that the rapid conclusion may have been deliberate to facilitate the early cremation of the body, potentially preventing a second autopsy.

The victim’s parents requested that authorities preserve the body for at least one day, but officials reportedly ignored their plea. Additionally, concerns arose about the language used in the post-mortem report, which appeared unprofessional and lacked the technical terminology typical of such documents.

Additionally, investigators noted a lack of adequate lighting in the morgue during the autopsy, which compromised the quality of the videography of the procedure. There are serious doubts regarding the thoroughness of this documentation, which is essential in such cases.

Moreover, the victim’s parents reported that their request to allow a family member or acquaintance to be present in the morgue during the autopsy was denied, further compounding their concerns.

Earlier this month, Governor CV Ananda Bose’s office questioned the Kolkata Police’s initial investigation before the CBI took over the case.
