Former Pakistan batsman Javed Miandad
Javed Miandad, former Pakistan cricket captain, has openly expressed his pride in his family ties with Dawood Ibrahim, referring to the fugitive underworld figure as someone who has contributed positively to the Muslim community.
Miandad, renowned for his cricketing prowess, shared insights during an interview with Pakistani journalist Hassan Nisar on his YouTube channel. He acknowledged a longstanding acquaintance with Dawood Ibrahim, particularly from their time in Dubai. Miandad highlighted the union between his son, Junaid, and Dawood’s daughter, Mahrukh, as a point of familial connection, emphasizing the educational background and accomplishments of his daughter-in-law.
Dispelling what he described as misconceptions, Miandad asserted that the public perception of Dawood’s family does not align with reality. He emphasized the complexity of understanding Dawood Ibrahim beyond the headlines, suggesting that there’s more depth to the individual and his family than is commonly portrayed.
Dawood Ibrahim, an Indian national, is wanted in India for his alleged involvement in the 1993 Mumbai bombings, which resulted in numerous casualties. Despite being labeled a “wanted terrorist” in his home country, Dawood has been reported to reside in Karachi, Pakistan, although Pakistani authorities have consistently denied his presence in the country.
Turning to Miandad’s illustrious cricket career, he represented Pakistan in 124 Test matches and 233 one-day internationals (ODIs) over nearly two decades, from October 1976 to March 1996. Renowned for his batting prowess, Miandad amassed impressive statistics, including 8832 runs and 23 centuries in Test cricket, along with 7381 runs and eight centuries in ODIs. His remarkable averages of 52 in Tests and 41 in ODIs reflect his consistency and talent on the field.

In addition to his accomplishments as a player, Miandad also served three terms as the coach of the Pakistani national cricket team, further contributing to the sport’s development in his country.
