Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s sustained efforts since 2014 for transforming India into a rapidly advancing economy.
Chairing the 28th Western Zonal Council meeting in Panaji, Shah highlighted India’s 7.8 per cent growth in the first quarter. He called the performance amid global turbulence a matter of pride.
Shah said PM Modi has strengthened cooperative federalism over the past 12 years. Zonal Council meetings have risen sharply under his tenure.
Between 2004 and 2014, the councils and their Standing Committees held 25 meetings. Since 2014, they have conducted 71 meetings.
Shah described the increase as an example of PM Modi’s Team India approach. The meetings discussed 1,893 issues, with 1,445 already resolved.
The Minister termed the Western Region India’s largest economic, industrial and financial centre. He described it as the country’s ‘WEST Engine’: wealth and finance, exports and ports, start-ups and semiconductors, tourism and the blue economy.
More than one crore tourists visit Goa annually, including five lakh foreign visitors. Tourism contributes 16 per cent to Goa’s GSDP.
Maharashtra leads India with 33,872 start-ups. Dholera has emerged as a semiconductor hub.
Mundra handles the country’s highest cargo volume, while Deendayal Port in Kutch ranks as the largest by cargo volume. Mumbai is emerging as a global capital hub.
The meeting reviewed Fast Track Special Courts, ERSS-112, food safety, Ayushman Bharat, banking access, railway projects and environmental clearances.
Members discussed urban planning, electricity supply, PACSs, Poshan Abhiyaan, school dropouts, cybercrime and digital infrastructure.
