Jamaat-E-Islami Hind Adds Urban Job Schemes, Higher Social Spending In Budget Recommendations

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) President Syed Sadatullah Husaini has called on the government to present a transformative Union Budget 2025-26 to tackle unemployment, poverty, and inequality. Speaking at the JIH Monthly Press Conference, Husaini emphasized shifting focus from business-centric policies to citizen-centric measures that promote welfare and inclusive growth.

“The country faces a livelihood crisis with 45% youth unemployment, 20% of the population living in poverty, and stagnant agrarian growth at 2.8%,” he said. “We urge the government to enhance welfare programs, stimulate demand, and bolster social security for marginalized communities.”

Husaini proposed key measures, including reversing budget cuts to MGNREGA, introducing a similar program for urban unemployment, and creating Rural Employment Hubs to boost renewable energy and agro-processing. He also called for increasing healthcare spending to 4% of GDP and allocating 6% of GDP to education under a “Mission Shiksha Bharat.”

For minorities and SC/ST communities, JIH recommended reviving scholarships, developing skill zones, and improving access to land and entrepreneurship opportunities. Other proposals included debt relief for farmers, guaranteed MSP, expanded irrigation projects, and a phased rollout of Universal Basic Income for vulnerable groups.

On revenue generation, Husaini suggested capping GST on essentials at 5%, introducing windfall and digital taxes, and raising states’ share of central taxes to 50%. He also advocated strengthening CSR norms and launching tax-exempt infrastructure bonds to fund education and healthcare initiatives.

JIH Declares 2025 as the Year of Communal Harmony
JIH Vice President Prof. Salim Engineer announced plans to designate 2025 as the “Year of Communal Harmony, Trust, and Understanding” to counter rising communal rhetoric, Islamophobia, and mob violence. “India has long been a beacon of coexistence, but divisive trends erode our values and cause economic losses,” he said.

Through platforms like Dharmik Jan Morcha and Sadbhavna Manch, JIH aims to promote interfaith dialogue and build bridges of trust. Prof. Salim urged faith and social leaders to join efforts to preserve India’s legacy of unity and diversity.

JIH Condemns Harassment of Muslims in Uttar Pradesh
JIH Vice President Malik Moatasim Khan voiced concern over the alleged harassment of Muslims in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh. He criticized the filing of cases against dozens of Muslims, including MP Zia-Ur-Rahman Barq, following protests over a court-ordered mosque survey.

“The revival of decades-old cases and politically motivated actions like power cuts and hefty fines create fear and division,” Khan said. JIH called on the Uttar Pradesh government to halt targeted operations, ensure justice, and uphold constitutional rights.

The press conference, moderated by JIH Media Incharge Mohammad Salman, concluded with an appeal for collective action to foster peace and social harmony.
