Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday welcomed the renewal of FCRA clearance for the Rural Development Trust. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Reddy said the approval under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act will allow the organisation to continue its services.
It will support work in education, healthcare, environment, and social welfare across the undivided Anantapur district.
YS Jagan Mohan Reddy emphasised that the decision would significantly benefit economically weaker and vulnerable communities dependent on the Trust’s initiatives. He, however, criticised Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for trying to claim credit. He questioned the delay in restoring permissions suspended on April 21, 2025.
Jagan asserted that administrative inaction prolonged the issue, compelling citizens, along with the YSR Congress Party and civil society groups, to organise sustained protests. He maintained that the eventual renewal resulted from public pressure and collective efforts rather than government initiative, dismissing rival claims as publicity-driven.
Earlier, Naidu also thanked the Prime Minister, the Home Minister, and the Centre for resolving the matter. He highlighted that RDT has long delivered essential services across thousands of villages in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, benefiting large sections of the poor.
Naidu noted that prior restrictions on foreign funding had disrupted the organisation’s operations.
Following representations to the Union government, the issue was resolved, allowing a smooth inflow of funds.
Naidu expressed appreciation on behalf of beneficiaries, acknowledging the Centre’s intervention in restoring the Trust’s functioning.
