
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with his Israeli counterpart, Benjamin Netanyahu, on Thursday, following Tuesday’s terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir.
Netanyahu ‘strongly condemned’ the assault and expressed solidarity with India and the victims’ families, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
Modi stressed the attack’s ‘barbaric’ character and vowed to bring the perpetrators and their supporters to justice.
Israeli Ambassador to India Reuven Azar told the media that Israel ‘condemns in the strongest terms’ the Pahalgam attack and will continue to share technology, methodology and intelligence with India in counter‑terror efforts.

Pahalgam Terror Attack: Global Condemnation Mounts
Countries worldwide have denounced the assault:
- France: Foreign Minister Jean‑Noël Barrot conveyed France’s solidarity in a call with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.
- Canada: Senator Leo Housakos labelled the massacre “a barbaric assault on faith and humanity” and urged swift justice. Prime Minister Mark Carney called it “a senseless and shocking act of violence.”
Deadliest Attack Since Pulwama
Gunmen opened fire on tourists in the Baisaran meadow of Anantnag district on Tuesday, killing 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen and injuring several others.
Authorities describe the incident as the worst terror strike in Jammu & Kashmir since the 2019 Pulwama bombing.
India’s Immediate Response
Prime Minister Modi chaired an emergency meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security, which approved a series of retaliatory measures:
- Suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty.
- Closure of the Integrated Check Post at Attari.
- Cancellation of Pakistani SAARC visa exemptions.
- Reduction of diplomatic staff in both countries’ missions.
