On Tuesday, workers of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) organized a protest in central Delhi following the recent stampede at New Delhi Railway Station, which tragically resulted in the deaths of 18 individuals and left several others injured. The protesters, holding placards and shouting slogans, demanded accountability for the alleged negligence that led to the tragedy. During the demonstration, tensions rose as protesters attempted to break police barricades.
Earlier on Monday, following the tragic incident, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) President Devender Yadav directed the filing of a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). The complaint, submitted by the Legal and Human Rights Department (LHRD) of the DPCC, sought a thorough investigation into the stampede, urging the NHRC to form an enquiry committee to probe the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

In his complaint, Yadav further criticized the Railway authorities and security personnel for their failure to manage the large crowd of devotees heading to Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh. He questioned the decision to sell 1,500 tickets per hour without making adequate arrangements for crowd management or additional coaches.
Yadav stressed that the NHRC probe should identify those responsible for the tragedy and ensure strict action is taken against them.
In response to the incident, the government has formed a two-member committee to investigate the stampede. Comprising Narsingh Deo, PCCM/Northern Railway, and Pankaj Gangwar, PCSC Northern Railway, the committee has already taken steps to secure video footage from platforms 14 and 15, where the massive crowd had gathered. The panel also conducted a site inspection on Sunday and began collecting statements from witnesses to corroborate the information with CCTV footage.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, the Railways further announced compensation for the victims. The Railways will provide Rs 10 lakh to the families of those who died in the stampede, Rs 2.5 lakh to passengers with serious injuries, and Rs 1 lakh to those with minor injuries.
As the investigation progresses and protests continue, authorities face increasing pressure to determine accountability and prevent such a devastating incident from occurring again.
