On Tuesday, Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena led a high-level meeting with senior officials from various Delhi government departments, including the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), at the LG Secretariat.
The meeting primarily focused on preparing a Summer Action Plan to ensure a steady water supply for the people of Delhi during the upcoming heatwave.
The plan will address potential water shortages and ensure efficient management of resources.
As per a statement from the LG’s office, discussions also included engaging with Haryana to prevent any water scarcity between May and June, ensuring a continuous water supply during the summer months.
Earlier, on 16 February, following a meeting between the LG and the Chief Secretary, they issued a directive for immediate action to clean the Yamuna River.
Several cleaning equipment, including trash skimmers, weed harvesters, and dredge utility vehicles, deployed to begin the cleaning efforts.
A statement from the LG’s office outlined a ‘four-pronged strategy’ for addressing pollution in the Yamuna River. The strategy includes:
A three-year timeline has been set for the Yamuna River cleanup, emphasizing collaboration between various agencies such as DJB, I&FC, MCD, Environment Department, PWD, and DDA.
The progress will closely monitored on a weekly basis, with the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) tasked with ensuring stringent oversight of the cleanup process.
