Indian Tricolour Lights Up Moscow’s Ostankino Tower In Tribute to PM Modi’s Visit To Russia

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Russia on Monday for a two-day official visit, marking a significant diplomatic gesture as the Indian tricolour adorned Moscow’s Ostankino Tower, Europe’s tallest free-standing structure. This visit, Modi’s first to Russia since its involvement in Ukraine in 2022, contrasts with his last trip in 2019 to Vladivostok for an economic conclave.

Upon arrival, Modi was greeted by First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, a notable distinction given Manturov’s seniority over the official who received the Chinese President. President Putin will host a private dinner for Modi on the first day, followed by engagements including an address to the Indian diaspora and a wreath-laying ceremony at the Kremlin’s Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on June 9. The agenda also includes a visit to Moscow’s Rosatom pavilion.

The Kremlin highlighted enhancing trade and economic ties as pivotal in discussions between Modi and Vladimir Putin. Following his stay in Russia, Modi will proceed to Vienna, marking the first visit by an Indian leader since Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s visit in 1983.
