India Expands Humanitarian Efforts In Myanmar Under Operation Brahma

India has intensified its relief operations in Myanmar under Operation Brahma, providing urgent assistance to those affected by the devastating March 28 earthquake.

On April 1, an Indian Air Force (IAF) C-130J aircraft carrying 16 tonnes of humanitarian aid landed in Mandalay.

The shipment included tents, generators, food supplies, drinking water, and emergency medicines, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

In addition to airlifted relief, INS Gharial set sail from Visakhapatnam, carrying 442 metric tonnes of food aid, including rice, cooking oil, biscuits, and instant noodles.

The Indian government aims to ensure immediate food security for affected communities.

Coordinated Multi-Agency Response

Operation Brahma represents a whole-of-government initiative involving the IAF, Indian Navy, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and Indian Army.

India’s relief efforts began on March 29 with an initial IAF C-130J carrying 15 tonnes of supplies to Yangon.

Subsequently, on March 30, two additional C-130J aircraft deployed 80 NDRF personnel and critical relief materials to Naypyitaw.

To strengthen medical support, two IAF C-17 aircraft transported an Indian Army Field Hospital Team comprising 118 personnel.

With over 60 tonnes of medical supplies and surgical equipment, the hospital in Mandalay is now operational, treating survivors and performing emergency surgeries.

Naval Support for Ongoing Relief

Apart from aerial assistance, Indian Navy ships have played a crucial role in delivering aid.

INS Satpura and INS Savitri reached Yangon on March 31, carrying 40 tonnes of humanitarian aid.

On April 1, INS Karmuk and LCU 52 followed with an additional 30 tonnes of relief materials.

India’s Commitment To Regional Stability

India has reiterated its readiness to provide further assistance as necessary.

The MEA emphasized that as a First Responder in the region, India remains committed to its Neighbourhood First and Act East policies.

These efforts highlight India’s role as a reliable partner in regional disaster response and humanitarian aid.

Through Operation Brahma, India continues to demonstrate its dedication to supporting Myanmar’s recovery, reinforcing the strong bilateral ties between the two nations.
