SUV Sales Surge In March As Indian Automakers Report Strong Growth

Indian automobile manufacturers recorded strong sales in March, driven by increasing demand for SUVs and a stable economic environment.

Leading the charge were Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Kia India, all reporting impressive growth in their SUV sales.

Maruti Suzuki Sees Steady Growth

Maruti Suzuki India, the country’s largest carmaker, posted a 4.5% increase in SUV sales, reaching 61,097 units in March 2025, up from 58,436 units in the same month last year.

Overall, the company’s total sales for March rose by 3.1% year-on-year (YoY) to 192,984 units, compared to 187,196 units in March 2024.

For the entire fiscal year 2024-25, Maruti Suzuki recorded its highest-ever annual sales, delivering 2,234,266 units.

This includes record-breaking domestic sales of 1,795,259 units and exports totaling 332,585 units.

Mahindra & Mahindra’s SUV Momentum Continues

Mahindra & Mahindra strengthened its position in the SUV segment, reporting an 18% rise in domestic SUV sales, reaching 48,048 units in March.

Including exports, total SUV sales stood at 50,835 units for the month.

The company also achieved a milestone in FY25 with record-breaking annual SUV sales of 5,51,487 units, reflecting a 20% increase from the previous year.

Mahindra reported total vehicle sales of 83,894 units in March 2025, marking a 23% year-on-year increase.

The company also introduced its Electric Origin SUVs, which are experiencing high demand.

Veejay Nakra, President of the Automotive Division at Mahindra & Mahindra stated, “The year ended on a very positive note with us selling over 5 lakh SUVs in the domestic market for the first time ever.”

Kia India Reports Strong Double-Digit Growth

Kia India continued its growth trajectory, recording domestic sales of 25,525 units in March 2025, a 19.3% increase from 21,400 units in March 2024.

The Sonet remained Kia’s best-selling model, contributing 30% of total sales, followed by the Seltos, Carens, and the newly launched Syros.

Hardeep Singh Brar, Senior Vice President and Head of Sales & Marketing at Kia, highlighted the strong response to the Kia Syros and reiterated the company’s focus on innovation and customer satisfaction.
