On Thursday, Samajwadi Party (SP) President Akhilesh Yadav announced that candidates from the INDIA bloc will contest all nine Assembly seats in the upcoming by-elections in Uttar Pradesh using the Samajwadi Party’s election symbol, the ‘cycle.’
He emphasized that they made this decision to secure victory, rather than relying on traditional seat-sharing arrangements.
Taking to X, Akhilesh Yadav posted, “It is not about seats but about victory. Under this strategy, the joint candidates of the ‘INDIA alliance’ will contest all 9 seats on the Samajwadi Party’s election symbol, the ‘cycle.”
“The Congress and Samajwadi Party are standing together, united and shoulder to shoulder, aiming for a big win. The INDIA alliance is likely to write a new chapter of victory in this by-election,” he added.
The Samajwadi Party (SP) President further stated, “With the Congress party’s top leadership down to booth-level workers joining hands, the strength of the Samajwadi Party has multiplied.”
“This unprecedented cooperation and support has energized every INDIA alliance worker on all 9 assembly seats with a commitment to victory,” Yadav asserted.
Commenting on the Uttar Pradesh by-elections, the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh stated that the forthcoming election will focus on safeguarding the Constitution, preserving peace, and upholding the dignity of the backward classes, Dalits, and minorities.
He wrote on X, “This election is about protecting the country’s Constitution, harmony, and the dignity of PDA (backward classes, Dalits, and minorities). That’s why we appeal to everyone: not a single vote should be lost, and not a single vote should be divided.”
“In the nation’s interest, this unity and solidarity of the INDIA alliance, filled with harmony, will write a new history today and tomorrow,” Yadav further added.
Nine Assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh, namely Katehari (Ambedkar Nagar), Karhal (Mainpuri), Meerapur (Muzaffarnagar), Ghaziabad, Majhawan (Mirzapur), Sishamau (Kanpur city), Khair (Aligarh), Phulpur (Prayagraj), and Kundarki (Moradabad), will be up for bypolls on 13 November.
Eight MLAs in the state vacated their seats after winning elections as MPs in the Lok Sabha. Additionally, the election authorities called for a bypoll in the Sisamau seat due to the disqualification of SP MLA Irfan Solanki, convicted in a criminal case.
The Election Commission has scheduled a by-election for nine seats, excluding Milkipur (Ayodhya).
Candidates can submit their nominations until 25 October, and the vote counting will occur on 23 November.
The SP has already announced its candidates for Karhal, Sisamau, Phulpur, Katehari, Majahawan, and Meerapur.
