India Aims To Send First Astronaut To Moon By 2040

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave instructions to the space department on Tuesday, which included plans for a space station by 2035, the government said that India hopes to send an astronaut to the moon by 2040.

India became the fourth nation overall to successfully complete a soft landing in August, just days after a similar Russian attempt failed. This achievement helped India’s aspirations for space travel soar.

Following that achievement, India launched a rocket to study the sun, and this week, as part of a crewed space mission, a test is planned.

“The prime minister directed that India should now aim for new and ambitious goals, including setting up ‘Bharatiya Antariksha Station’ (Indian Space Station) by 2035 and sending the first Indian to the moon by 2040,” the ministry stated in a statement.

“To realize this vision, the Department of Space will develop a roadmap for moon exploration,” it stated.
