It may be recalled that C. M. Ibrahim, the then president of JD(S) Karnataka unit has openly revolted against the party prez Deve Gowda’s decision of going with the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and instead supported the Congress.
“The committee headed by Ibrahim is dissolved. This is not an expulsion. With respect he has been vacated from the post,” Deve Gowda declared. Earlier Ibrahim challenged Gowda that the defeat of BJP led NDA needs to be ensured and that he can’t be expelled as he is the state president of the party.

Ibrahim’s open rebellion was seen to be a deep fissure within JD(S). However, the former Prime Minister tactfully played down that speculation by saying “everything will be normal soon.” There was a chance that Ibrahim, backed by Congress, might approach the court against his expulsion and now that the entire state committee has been dissolved, that route of Ibrahim is now closed.
