PM Criticizes Nitish Kumar

In a recent political controversy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, without explicitly naming him, for comments related to women’s education and population control. This controversy has sparked a significant response from various political figures and parties.

At a campaign rally in Madhya Pradesh, PM Modi referenced a “prominent leader of INDIA alliance,” an opposition bloc, who used what he described as “indecent language” in the Assembly. The PM expressed his concern about the lack of condemnation from other INDIA alliance leaders for this behavior.

The comments in question were made during a debate on a caste survey. Nitish Kumar’s government proposed raising quotas for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, OBCs, and EBCs from 50% to 65%, surpassing the 50% cap set by the Supreme Court in 1992. This proposal stirred controversy and criticism.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, including Union Minister Nityanand Rai, Aparna Yadav, Vijay Kumar Sinha, and others, have strongly condemned Nitish Kumar’s comments and demanded his resignation. They have also called on voters in Bihar to remember his remarks during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

BJP leaders from various states, including Tamil Nadu, have joined the criticism, emphasizing the impact of Nitish Kumar’s words on the reputation of the INDIA alliance. They have questioned the silence of prominent women leaders in the alliance, such as Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Mamata Banerjee.

In response to the growing backlash, Nitish Kumar offered an apology, stating that his words were not intended to hurt anyone. However, this did not appease the BJP, which continued to demand his resignation.

This controversy has become a focal point in the political landscape, with potential implications for the upcoming elections in various states and the 2024 general election. It has highlighted the tensions between political parties and leaders within the country.
