House collapsed near Kashi Vishwanath temple in UP’s Varanasi on Tuesday killed a women, however operation team rescued 8 from the accident spot. Heavy rainfall led the collapse of two houses.

The affected houses were located in Khoya Gali, near the Chowk area, close to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple. Both houses were over 70 years old. Early Tuesday morning, the structures suddenly fell, trapping nine people inside.

Rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and local police quickly arrived at the scene. They managed to pull eight people from the rubble, later authorities took them to hospital. Unfortunately, one woman succumbed to her injuries and died in the hospital.

Varanasi Police Commissioner Mohit Agarwal confirmed that team had rescued all individuals trapped under the debris. A woman constable, injured during the rescue operation transferred to the BHU Trauma Centre. Doctors have reported that she is in stable condition and out of danger.

Kaushal Raj Sharma, Commissioner of Varanasi Division, stated that the deceased woman was admitted to Kabir Chaura Hospital. He mentioned that the rescue operation was nearly complete. Sharma highlighted the next steps, which include clearing the debris and restoring water and electricity supplies to the other houses in the area. The collapse affected the upper floor of one of the houses, causing the entrapment of residents.

In response to the incident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath promptly took action. He directed district administration officials and NDRF teams to the site to accelerate relief efforts. The Chief Minister instructed that the injured receive immediate medical attention and prayed for their swift recovery.
