Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced Union Cabinet approval for the Integrated Transport and Logistics Authority (ITLA), positioning the new body as a mechanism to strengthen coordinated infrastructure planning under the Modi government’s Viksit Bharat vision.
The authority will function as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) and prepare a National Transport Master Plan covering more than 10 years.
The plan will integrate roads, railways, ports, aviation, waterways, urban mobility and logistics to support long-term infrastructure development.
ITLA will technically appraise infrastructure projects worth more than Rs 500 crore and monitor their implementation.
The authority will seek to address fragmented planning across ministries by bringing transport data together through a unified repository.
The new framework will promote multimodal integration and facilitate faster resolution of issues that can delay infrastructure projects.
The government expects coordinated planning to improve efficiency as India’s economy and infrastructure requirements expand. The authority will bring different transport modes and government institutions within a coordinated planning framework, helping align project development with broader national infrastructure priorities.
The initiative forms part of the government’s wider focus on strengthening connectivity, improving logistics efficiency and developing infrastructure to support India’s long-term growth objectives.
