Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate the Hindi Diwas 2026 programme and the sixth All India Official Language Conference in Mumbai on Monday, an official statement said.
The event, organised in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, will explore Hindi’s close links with Maharashtra’s linguistic, cultural and literary heritage.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar will attend the programme alongside MPs, scholars, writers, educationists and senior Central government officials.
The Department of Official Language under the Ministry of Home Affairs has conducted the All India Official Language Conference every year since 2021.
The conference began its journey in Varanasi and subsequently travelled to Surat, Pune, New Delhi and Gandhinagar before reaching Navi Mumbai this year.
Shah will confer the Rajbhasha Gaurav and Rajbhasha Kirti Awards for 2025–26 during the inaugural session of the two-day gathering.
The awards will honour institutions and individuals who have made outstanding contributions towards the use and promotion of the Official Language.
Publications and Discussions
The conference will feature the release of several publications, including a special edition of Rajbhasha Bharati dedicated to the National Song ‘Vande Mataram’.
Other publications scheduled for release include Bharatiya Gyan Tantra: Srot aur Swaroop, Shiv Anadi Hain, Anant Hain and Andheron Se Ujalon Tak, a collection of writings by prison inmates.
A dedicated discussion will examine the National Song ‘Vande Mataram’, with Joydeep Chattopadhyay attending the programme as a special guest.
Chattopadhyay is the fifth-generation descendant of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, the author of ‘Vande Mataram’.
The programme will examine how Town Official Language Implementation Committees, known as TOLICs/NARAKAS, help extend Hindi implementation at the grassroots.
An exhibition at the venue will showcase stalls from various institutions, organisations, banks and Ministries.
