Prime Minister Narendra Modi held discussions with Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in New Delhi on Sunday as the 18th BRICS Summit continued at Bharat Mandapam.
National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Ministry of External Affairs Secretary (West) Sibi George and other officials accompanied the Prime Minister during the talks.
PM Modi and Tokayev exchanged cordial greetings before their meeting, after which the Prime Minister also welcomed and interacted with members of the Kazakh delegation.
India is conducting the two-day 18th BRICS Summit as the grouping’s chair for 2026, with the meeting bringing together leaders from member states, partner nations and outreach invitees.
Earlier on Sunday, PM Modi and Tokayev appeared alongside other participating leaders and heads of international organisations for the BRICS family photograph at Bharat Mandapam.
The BRICS grouping consists of Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates.
The partner-country group includes Belarus, Cuba, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.
Tokayev joined visiting leaders at a gala dinner hosted by PM Modi at Bharat Mandapam on Saturday evening.
On the same day, the 11 BRICS member countries unanimously approved the New Delhi Declaration.
The declaration commended India for conducting the Outreach/BRICS Plus Dialogue segment and said the country’s chairship had provided ‘new impetus’ to international cooperation and solidarity.
The participating nations also reiterated their adherence to mutual respect and understanding, sovereign equality, solidarity, democracy, openness, inclusiveness, collaboration and consensus.
Tokayev arrived in the national capital on Saturday to participate in the BRICS Summit.
Union Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar received the Kazakhstan President at the airport ahead of his summit engagements.
