Hazaribagh Residents Celebrate GST Reforms; Thank PM Modi For Relief

Residents and shopkeepers in Hazaribagh have expressed widespread gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the implementation of revised Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates.

The reforms, effective from the first day of Navratri, have brought relief to households and businesses, easing financial burdens just in time for the festive season.

Locals welcomed the reduction in GST, noting that essential items such as UHT milk, pre-packaged paneer, breads, and household staples are now more affordable.

Medical supplies, including 33 essential drugs and medical devices like glucometers, have either been exempted or moved to lower tax brackets.

Political and Public Appreciation

MP Manish Jaiswal praised the government’s initiative, saying it delivers relief to all sections of society while stimulating the market.

“The simplified tax structure, now with only two main GST slabs, will make compliance easier and offer broader benefits,” he said.

Local women, in particular, highlighted the positive impact on household budgets.

Archana Sinha told the news agency, “Gas cylinders and kitchen essentials now cost less, allowing us to spend more during festivals like Durga Puja and Dussehra.”

Jyotsna Devi added, “We can celebrate the upcoming festivals with more joy thanks to the revised GST rates.”

The business community also welcomed the move, noting increased consumer activity.

Sunil Gupta, Secretary of the Hazaribagh Textile Traders Association, said, “The GST cuts have already boosted footfall in markets, and we anticipate this year’s festive sales will double compared to last year.”

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman earlier highlighted that the government expects the reforms to inject around Rs 2 lakh crore into the economy by raising disposable incomes.

The government has reduced GST on electronics and kitchen appliances, including air conditioners, televisions, and washing machines, from 28 per cent to 18 per cent.

Dry fruits and nuts, such as almonds and cashews, now attract a 5 per cent levy instead of 12 per cent, further easing festive purchases.

Officials note that these measures, alongside tax-free stationery and essential groceries, will support both households and traders, creating a festive atmosphere while stimulating economic activity.
