Harsimrat Kaur Badal Urges HM Amit Shah To Order CBI Probe Into Anti-Drug Activist’s Murder

SAD MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal wrote to Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday. She demanded a CBI probe into anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota’s murder.

Harsimrat Kaur sought an investigation into the alleged politician-police-drug mafia nexus in Punjab. The letter comes a day before Shah’s scheduled visit to Punjab on October 20.

Kaur said Jhota actively campaigned against drug trafficking and the illegal sale of controlled medicines and synthetic narcotics in the Mansa region.

According to her letter, Jhota informed the Mansa Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) about the alleged sale of psychotropic drugs at a chemist shop.

He asked the officer to reach the premises, but the police allegedly failed to arrive. Jhota then livestreamed the alleged drug sale by shop owner Ashwini Kumar. Kaur claimed Kumar subsequently shot Jhota dead and injured two others.

Jhota’s father, Bhim Singh, accused officials and politicians of protecting the drug trade. He alleged that his son faced false cases, imprisonment and threats for exposing narcotics networks. He further accused senior police officers and drug inspectors of shielding suspected offenders.

Kaur cited Kumar’s alleged history of selling controlled drugs and questioned how he obtained a firearms licence in 2024, months after his release from jail.

She urged the CBI to investigate the murder, the alleged involvement of public officials and the use of police action against anti-drug activists.

Kaur cited cases involving Mohanjit Singh, who allegedly faced torture after protesting against chitta sales, and Gulzar Singh, who died by suicide after reportedly facing police pressure.

Kaur said an independent, comprehensive investigation was essential to identify those responsible and address Punjab’s drug crisis. The allegations have not been independently established.
