Polling in Gurugram district kicked off on Saturday, with voter turnout reaching 3% within the first two hours across the four Assembly constituencies – Gurgaon, Sohna, Badshahpur, and Pataudi (SC).
Voting began at 7 AM and will continue until 6 PM, with a total of 1,507 polling booths set up to facilitate the electoral process.
Among the early voters was Rao Narbir Singh, a former minister contesting for the Badshahpur seat, who cast his ballot at a government school in Fazilpur Jharsa village.
He urged the public to engage actively in the democratic process, emphasizing the importance of exercising their voting rights.
The distribution of polling booths across the constituencies includes 259 in Pataudi, 518 in Badshahpur, 435 in Gurgaon, and 292 in Sohna. Officials set up 126 polling stations to serve voters in high-rise buildings.
The Gurugram district boasts a significant electorate, with 1,504,959 registered voters across the four constituencies.
Several initiatives aim to boost voter turnout, emphasizing the importance of participation in the democratic process.
The breakdown of registered voters includes 253,684 in Pataudi, 513,052 in Badshahpur, 437,183 in Gurgaon, and 283,391 in Sohna.
Additionally, the district has 5,759 service voters, with the largest concentration in Pataudi (3,102), followed by Sohna (1,340), Badshahpur (826), and Gurgaon (491).
In terms of security, officials have flagged 252 polling booths as critical, necessitating enhanced security measures.
Meanwhile, a total of 4,800 police personnel, home guards, and a contingent of central paramilitary forces will be deployed at these sites.
Furthermore, the district administration has arranged for the presence of 10 companies of paramilitary forces, along with special police officers (SPOs) and 6,000 local security personnel, to ensure a smooth and secure voting process across the 627 locations hosting polling booths.
