Gujarat ATS Arrests Four Suspected ISIS Terrorists from Sri Lanka at Ahmedabad Airport

These arrests coincide with the imminent arrival of three IPL teams at the Ahmedabad airport for the qualifier and eliminator games.

The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has apprehended four suspected ISIS terrorists, all Sri Lankan nationals, at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. According to TV9 Gujarati, the suspects have been taken to an undisclosed location for intensive interrogation. The specific reasons for their presence at the Ahmedabad airport remain unclear.

Reports indicate that the terrorists arrived in Ahmedabad via Chennai from Sri Lanka and were in communication with Pakistani handlers. In response to the arrests, security measures have been significantly increased across the airport.

In a related incident in March, two senior ISIS leaders in India were captured near the international border after entering from Bangladesh. Identified as Harish Ajmal Farooqi (alias Harish Ajmal Farukhi) from Dehradun, Uttarakhand, and Anurag Singh (alias Rehan) from Panipat, Haryana, these individuals were described as highly indoctrinated and motivated leaders of ISIS in India. They were involved in activities such as recruitment, terror funding, and planning terrorist acts using improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

According to the Special Task Force (STF), these individuals had advanced ISIS’s objectives in India through conspiracies involving recruitment, terror funding, and planning IED attacks at various locations across the country. The National Investigation Agency (NIA), New Delhi, and ATS, Lucknow, have registered several cases against them.
