Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed condolences over the deaths in the Greater Noida double-decker bus fire and announced financial assistance for the victims’ families and those injured.
In a post shared by the PMO India, PM Modi said he was ‘distressed’ to hear about the loss of life in the bus fire in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. He offered condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.
The Prime Minister announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each deceased, while those injured will receive Rs 50,000.

Nine passengers, including a woman, died after the double-decker bus caught fire on the Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida.
The bus was travelling from Kashmiri Gate in New Delhi to Mahoba in Uttar Pradesh when the fire broke out near the 33-km milestone under the Jewar Police Station area.
More than 30 passengers were reportedly on board. Several escaped through the windows as the fire spread rapidly, while nine people remained trapped inside.
Police and fire teams reached the spot and launched rescue operations.
Additional fire tenders and a fire service unit helped bring the blaze under control, with more than 20 passengers evacuated safely.
A preliminary investigation suggested that a spark or blast in the air-conditioning system may have ignited engine lubricating oil. Authorities are continuing to determine the exact cause.
Police have registered a case and taken the driver and conductor into custody. Authorities are working to identify the deceased.
