Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday interacted with participants of the Seva Yatra travelling between Vadnagar and Varanasi, emphasising that service should remain the primary duty of those in public life. He spoke to the Seva Yatris through video conferencing as they continued their motorcycle journey under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan.
The yatra began on September 17 and will continue until October 7, with teams travelling between Vadnagar in Gujarat and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.
The initiative combines community service, youth participation, social welfare, cultural engagement and grassroots public outreach.
Participants have been conducting cleanliness drives and interacting with beneficiaries, residents, schools, hospitals and other community institutions along the route.
During the interaction, participants shared their experiences of meeting communities and encouraging people to join the NaMo App. They spoke about receiving blessings from beneficiaries of government schemes, including the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
PM Modi urged the participants to demonstrate the spirit of service through their actions rather than merely speaking about it. He said public life should remain rooted in service regardless of the position or political power a person attains.
Referring to his own experience as a BJP worker, PM Modi recalled participating in and organising several yatras. He said participants often face challenges involving weather, travel and changing locations, while maintaining their commitment to the journey.
PM Modi described Vadnagar and Varanasi as historic cities, referring to Vadnagar as his birthplace and Varanasi as his ‘karmabhoomi’. He said the yatra was connecting the two cities through a wider campaign of public service and participation.
The Prime Minister highlighted activities such as public meetings, beneficiary interactions, tree plantation, cleanliness drives and cultural programmes, saying such engagements help build direct dialogue with communities.
PM Modi linked the spirit of service to the Jyotigram and Sujalam Sufalam Yojanas and highlighted youth’s role in achieving Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav and Rajasthan CM Bhajanlal Sharma attended the interaction.
