On Monday, the government has announced plans to host the ‘Global IndiaAI Summit’ in New Delhi on 3-4 July, marking a significant step towards fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).
As the lead chair of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI), India aims to underscore its commitment to the ethical and inclusive advancement of AI technologies.
The summit will bring together member countries and experts from diverse sectors including science, industry, civil society, governments, international organizations, and academia.
It seeks to address key issues and challenges surrounding AI through insightful discussions and partnerships.
Highlighting the event’s significance, the Ministry of Information Technology emphasized India’s proactive role in promoting responsible AI development.
The New Delhi declaration, adopted under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi last December, outlines principles aimed at harnessing AI opportunities while managing associated risks effectively.
Meanwhile, the IndiaAI Mission, a cornerstone initiative of the summit, aims to build a robust AI ecosystem.
It focuses on democratizing computing access, improving data quality, fostering indigenous AI capabilities, attracting top talent, promoting industry collaboration, supporting AI startups, and ensuring the societal impact and ethical use of AI technologies.
The IT Ministry stated, “The Global IndiaAI Summit will serve as a platform to drive responsible and inclusive growth within India’s AI ecosystem.”
The summit’s agenda however will prominently feature these pillars, reflecting India’s strategic vision for AI development and governance.
With global participation expected, the summit is poised to catalyze international cooperation towards realizing the full potential of AI for societal benefit while adhering to ethical standards and ensuring accountability.
