The government has launched ‘Gyan Post’, a new postal service aimed at making the delivery of educational, cultural, social, and religious books more affordable and accessible.
The service will become operational from 1 May across all departmental post offices in India.
The Ministry of Communications stated that the initiative reflects India Post’s ongoing commitment to advancing education and ensuring access to learning materials across even the remotest corners of the country.
Announcing the gazette notification, Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia further emphasised that ‘Gyan Post’ aligns with the New Education Policy (NEP) and supports its mission to deliver education to every individual.
“Whether it’s a textbook, exam guide, or cultural literature, ‘Gyan Post’ ensures that knowledge travels the last mile,” Scindia said.
Affordable And Trackable Book Delivery
‘Gyan Post’ offers a cost-effective delivery option for sending non-commercial printed educational materials via India’s vast postal network.

The service will operate via surface mode and provide tracking features for added transparency.
Pricing begins at just ₹20 for packets up to 300 grams, and goes up to ₹100 for parcels weighing up to 5 kilograms (excluding applicable taxes), making it highly affordable for students, educators, and organisations.
Strict Guidelines On Eligibility
Only non-commercial educational material will qualify for this service.
Books containing commercial advertisements, business-related publications, or promotional content will not be accepted under ‘Gyan Post’.
The Ministry has further clarified that each book must display the name of the printer or publisher, as per the specified conditions, to ensure transparency and authenticity.

Through ‘Gyan Post’, India Post reaffirms its role as a vital public service institution, dedicated to bridging the education divide and empowering communities.
By delivering books and learning materials at affordable rates, the postal network is further helping to democratise access to education, one parcel at a time.
“India Post continues to uphold its legacy by making knowledge not only available but reachable to all,” the Ministry concluded.
