For the fifth consecutive day, the Pakistan Army violated the ceasefire agreement along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, prompting a strong and calibrated response from the Indian Army.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Defence, the firing occurred during the night of 28–29 April, affecting areas in the Kupwara and Baramulla districts of Kashmir, as well as the Akhnoor sector in Jammu.
“The Pakistan Army resorted to unprovoked small arms fire across the LoC,” the ministry said. “The Indian Army responded in a measured and effective manner to the provocation.”
Tensions Rise After Pahalgam Terror Attack
Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants killed 26 civilians—including 25 tourists and a local resident—during the Pahalgam terror attack on 22 April, triggering the recent border flare-ups.

The massacre triggered nationwide outrage and further renewed calls for a decisive crackdown on terrorism.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack in his first public statement, vowing to pursue the perpetrators and their sponsors:
“The terrorists, their handlers and backers will be hunted down to the ends of the earth,” he said.
Top-Level Security Meetings Underway
In response to rising tensions, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held a 40-minute strategic meeting with the Prime Minister on Monday after receiving a comprehensive briefing from the Chief of Defence Staff on the armed forces’ preparedness.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha convened a high-level security review meeting in Srinagar with Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, calling for intensified action:
“Use whatever force is required to bring the perpetrators of the Pahalgam killings to justice,” the L-G instructed.
Crackdown On Terror Networks Continues
In a visible show of force, Indian security agencies have stepped up their crackdown on terrorist infrastructure and overground workers (OGWs).
Authorities have continued to demolish homes belonging to active militants in the Kashmir Valley.
Last Friday, security forces demolished two properties in Tral and Bijbehara linked to Adil Hussain Thokar and Asif Sheikh, both identified as LeT operatives involved in the Pahalgam massacre. So far, they have razed ten houses belonging to active militants as part of the ongoing operation.
J&K Assembly Unites Against Terrorism
In a rare show of unanimity, the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Monday passed a resolution strongly condemning the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, sending a clear message of zero tolerance for violence.
As tensions along the LoC continue to escalate, the Indian government further appears resolute in its approach to defending national security and responding forcefully to cross-border terrorism.
