Prices of petrol and diesel cut by Rs 2 per litre.
Before the announcement of the Lok Sabha election schedule, the Central government took a significant step by lowering the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 2 per litre.
Speculation had been mounting due to recent reductions in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and compressed natural gas (CNG) prices, hinting at a possible decrease in petrol and diesel prices, especially with the impending Lok Sabha polls.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri expressed, “With the Rs 2 reduction in petrol and diesel prices, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has once again underscored his commitment to the welfare and convenience of millions of Indians.”
Earlier, on International Women’s Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a notable cut of Rs 100 per cylinder in cooking gas prices, benefiting nearly 33 crore households reliant on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for cooking.
Just last week, Hardeep Puri had emphasized the necessity for public sector oil marketing companies (OMCs) to carefully consider any decision to reduce retail prices of petrol and diesel. This contemplation was warranted due to the intricate dynamics of the global energy market, geopolitical tensions, and the financial stability of these companies.
